    Tabbed Browsing Enhancements
Following the lead of other browsers, Apple has implemented a customizable tab-bar so that users can re-order tabs via drag-and-drop. Apple has also extended the concept to be able to make a window from a tab by dragging a tab off of the tab bar.sounds like the tabbing feature that is built into Adium!

That's only 1,258,291.2 gigabytes ... If each customer gets, say, 500 megabytes allocated, that's enough for 2,516,582 customers.

To be safe more like enough for 2.5 million customers @ 500 megabytes (which isn't very high, I would hope for more like 5000 megabytes/5 gigabytes, but then that's only enough for like 251,658 customers).

Point is, they better have another 10+ Pb along the way ...

Have you ever heard of deduplication?

May seem like a silly question about the shuffle....but can the 2nd gen Shuffle play gapless if you set it off shuffle and load in a gapless album?

apple says no, and i can confirm this on my new 2nd gen shuffle. there is a slight gap.

Lotus Notes is a great program when it's implemented correctly. We've been using it over 10 years now and there's still nothing out there that can touch it.

Improved support on the Apple is a good thing. They are even improving the client on Linux as well. That will really give people the potential to move away from windows.

I got a weird bug. Sometimes my albums in the photos app go right to the top of the screen and show underneath the 'menubar' at the top so I can tap on it and open the first album in the list. If I pull it back down on the rubberband effect it still goes to the top of the screen?! I have to restart my phone for it to reset and its still hit and miss whether it works.

Did you report it (https://bugreport.apple.com/)?

There are really none of either game on the service. So far I find it works pretty well for the action/sports/racing games they have, but the cost is more of an issue ... and if I was going to hook something to my TV why not get a REAL console? OnLive has ~40 games right now.

    Bertrand Serlet (Apple)
Apple today announced (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/03/23serlet.html) that Bertrand Serlet, senior vice president of Mac Software Engineering, will be departing the company in order to "focus less on products and more on science", although his specific destination remains unknown. Serlet joined Steve Jobs at NeXT in 1989, and transitioned to Apple in 1997 when NeXT was acquired and Jobs brought back to lead Apple.

Craig Federighi demoing Mac OS X Lion (Reuters)
Serlet will be replaced by Craig Federighi, currently Apple's vice president of Mac Software Engineering and who has led Mac OS X engineering for the past two years. Federighi is another former NeXT and Apple employee who spent ten years at Ariba before returning to Apple in 2009. Serlet notes that the transition should be seamless given Federighi's role in leading the current Mac OS X team.Serlet has occasionally appeared at Apple keynote and media events over the years to introduce Mac OS X-related features, and thus well known to longtime Apple followers. Federighi made his first public presentation since his return to Apple at last October's "Back to the Mac" event (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/20/live-coverage-of-apples-back-to-the-mac-media-event/), taking the stage to show off some of the features of Apple's forthcoming Mac OS X Lion.

Everyone's been plagued by the same email outages...why should you expect special treatment?

I don't expect special treatment. Any dotmac user has the ability to petition Apple for a free year of service to compensate for reliability issues. I'm not pulling a fast one on Apple. It was their decision to give me a free year, and if they do it again it will also be their decision.

If they won't give me a free year as a gesture of goodwill, I am free to make my own decisions based on theirs.

There's nothing special about it. Just dealing with customer service.

If the page looks like crap if a text area is resized larger than you expected, what's going to happen when a new browser comes out that uses a larger default font in the text area, or adds additional margin padding, etc? If that will make it look like crap, then that's your problem, not the user's!

That's why we use style tags to set a default font (yes, even in text areas) or fixed margins. If the W3 gives us the tools, then why should the browser render them void? That just makes no sense.

We should get back to the way HTML markup is envisioned. The author tags the test by functions like "title" or "larger" and the browser descides how to display it

That's the most ridiculous statement I've read in this thread so far - and there are quite a few.

They've asked for another internal app that will step a user through a sequence of steps to install a device. The steps look like:

Occam's Razor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_Razor) does dictate that the explanation Apple has offered up is the most likely. Unlike what some other blogs have been claiming (:cough: Gizmodo :cough: ) it's unlikely that Apple meant to leave an unencrypted tracking database available on each phone.

Further, I examined a map of my iPhone's database and there were some unexplained blobs. Unexplained that is until I read Apple's description, and then it all fit. I flew through Atlanta 4 times in the past year, spending a total of a couple of hours there. My mapped blobs on Atlanta were much larger than the entire weeks I spent in Montana and Wyoming. The only way this makes sense is if the data is actually crowdsourced, which is exactly what Apple claims.

So I see little reason to disbelieve today's statements. (Unless you are inclined towards conspiracy theories, which an unfortunately high % of our population seem to be.)

The next FCS better be extremely better if they intend on catching up with Adobe. By the time Apple gets FCP out next year, Adobe will be close to releasing CS6 and that will probably be another jump past Apple. I'm not holding my breath for Apple; they only care about their main cash cows now. Those being the consumer device/application markets.

And when FCS4 comes out it will be a year ahead of CS5. What's your point?

Apple probably know that they can't compete in this space, at least profitably. Both Shake and Xserve are gone. The Macpro on price/performance is really poor value. And whilst FCS is brilliant value, it never really leaps ahead in terms of added features or optimisation.

It's possible that Apple in 5 years time will be a purely consumer electronics company, with no 'computers' in the traditional sense in it's line up. If this bears out, Pro Applications and Hardware, don't really figure into that reality.

Please... without pro apps there is no reason for businesses to have pricey Mac setups. There is no need to have a mac if you're just using Microsoft Office and Email

We've been using Mac Pros as servers for years now... it has more function than the Xserve but is just not rack mountable. No big deal. And who used Shake that its loss makes an impact? Apple could cut Motion and I don't think many would care.

Meanwhile in the world of tablets, RIM is having problems:

Earlier this week it was a breakout of sudden playbook death syndrome.

Now the company can't deliver its phones and the CEO is having a hard time with questions about security:

Poor RIM. I think the end is near.

Sounds like everything Apple just went through with Antenna-Gate and the White iPhone 4. It happens to everyone.
