My predictions:

With each and every release of a new OS (going back beyond Windows), Microsoft has made hyperbolic claims about how good it was going to be. As anyone who's followed this for a while knows, Microsoft's claims rarely live up to reality. The fact is, a lot of people never even bothered to get onto the XP bandwagon. Do you think they're going to be excited about Vista? Unfortunately for Microsoft, their "good enough" philosophy also works for a lot of their customers. They're used to not being motivated by newer and theoretically better. As you admit, the first version of Vista is going to be a dog, just as the first versions of 95, 98 and XP were. People do learn that the risks can outweigh the benefits. My attitude detector reports that hardly anybody cares about Vista.
All that being said, Microsoft will sell a zillion copies of Vista. Most of those will be through the OEM pipeline. The OEMs will buy it because they don't have a choice. This is how each and every version of Windows has become a "success." It's Microsoft's dirty little secret.

I am waiting for a resistant case to cracks and drops. However .. no flash .. i cant take that .. it is really getting bored with same stuff ... change more. Otherwise will start to look for some htc.

Really a great update for a great product. And now even Mac Mini Solo has a supported configuration. I can't believe Apple has improved so many things for no update price. I also can't believe so many negative ratings. Those waiting for new MBPs, check out next MS event or E3 or Oscars...you never know :D .

I just installed Mac OS X Lion DP2 on my Hackintosh, and I love it, its amazing, the experience is a lot better then Snow Leopard, only had the opportunity to use it for a while, still fooling around with stuff..

zimtheinvader you're right: MBA does not compare favourably to other products available. Thinness is a nice quality, and indeed it gives that premium edge to the MBA that other UMPCs lack, but Apple's seeming need to give you a full-featured, full-screen, full-clock speed computer is contrary to the needs of ultraportability. While I don't begrudge the Core 2 processor, nor the ample RAM, I can't say that a 13.3" widescreen is essential. (Indeed, if you're aiming for portability, then the dinosaur 4:3 format offers a greater ratio of screen area to overall dimensions).
I recently had the opportunity to borrow an Asus Eee PC, and was blown away by the advantages of its form factor. It was solidly built, confidence inspring, yet portable. The MBA makes me worry about potential flimsiness. How will it compared to a Macbook if bashed in the centre of the lid. The Eee PC, while slow and cramped, at least has rigidity
Moreover, do people really want to pay more for a compromised solution? Compare the Eee PC at �200. Now I don't wish to say that the Eee PC is something Apple should have produced, but in almost every respect it is in the right direction. It's smaller in the correct sense (reducing the greater dimensions first), sturdier, cheaper. Asus have done a fantastic job of this, and I don't doubt that Apple could have done it even better. Im quite torn. The 20" Cinema Display is cheaper than the dell BUT the limited adjustability is turning me off plus the fact that the UK specs are still yet to be updated. The Dell is an obvious better buy but it just doesn't look as good as the Cinema Display and its resale value won't be close to that of the Cinema Display.
I dont know why apple made the adjustibilty so limited. Even steve tends to bend his head at times to see the display he uses properly.

Actually, I find your post to be spot off. I find your portrayal of Mac owners to be shallow, self-serving, stereotyping and weak. I did notice you used the term 'some' in an attempt to mitigate your attack.
The fact is, of the 50-100 Mac users I know, I only know one other person who reads these boards. The majority are just owner/users who love their machines. If I were to pick a group of smug zealots around here, it would be the the Apple bashers.

Good. I'm all in favor of Apple adding more incentives for devs to embrace the Mac App store. As a consumer I really like the idea of an App Store that makes buying and installing as easy as one click as well as fostering competition between comparable apps.
And not being able to resell it or trade it in... :eek:

I was playing this game today and the final kill cam was of a guy getting shot who was standing in the middle of a road (where he spawned) aimed at the sky shooting at a helicopter with what looked like a Light Machine gun of some sort. The guy who shot him was in a room looking out a window. As the replay was going on i stated over the mic "now there's an intelligent player" referring to the guy who was under no cover trying to take down a chopper with a gun. The guy who was shooting at the chopper stated that he was trying to fulfill and achievement by taking the chopper down.
I thought about this and realized that this goal/reward system in the game (this goes for most online FPS's) in a way made this player do something so stupid. The player was only looking to fulfill his own personal goals and thought nothing of the team and the loss that occurred cause of it.
So I ask you, (the reader) does this make sense to have in the game when it forces players to go out of there way for personal goals and shift away from the overall team play?

So why bother? If you don't like it, don't download it. There are thousands of apps in the store that I don't like or have no interest in. No need to comment everywhere how much I dislike them and how much every user of those is a brainless idiot. there is a very simple solution with basically two options:
(1) if you (think you) like it -> download and try
(2) if you don't like it, don't download it
It is not that this app is forced to be installed on your phone. It is your choice.
I always enjoyed the creative iAds, I downloaded the app and found to my surprise that it even shows me (in the US) some of the European ads which I otherwise wouldn't have seen.
The only thing I wonder about is: is Apple getting money if people click on the ads? (my guess would be no)

With regards to this particular ad, should we presume from your comment that you are not an engineer, a doctor, a business person, a teacher, a student, a parent or a child? All these folks love their iPads.
I guess people without children that do not fall under any of those careers can't like iPads :(

Because no root/jailbreak is needed in order to do tethering, even if carriers disable those downloads from the Market. Because you can still download and install apps from anywhere on the internet.
But anyways, I don't think anyone would choose an OS just for one reason alone. Some might, of course.

Its funny how the news sites word the news.. the android market has never been open. In any way. Its been less restrictive than the app store, but thats not being open, at all. I totally disagree with the people who claim android is less open every time something like this changes.
Android is "open" because google releases the latest source from time to time. (Real open source projects work in the open BTW, instead of releasing the source every big release).
That means anybody (read: carriers) can go and take a high class mobile OS for free and do with it what it wants; for better (lots of choices in software and hardware, big ecosystem) and for worse (slow updates, android modifications that suck, mobile phones that suck).
The fact that people could take android and make it even more restrictive than iOS is why it is open.
So yeah. Today android users can sideload any app without rooting/jailbreaking. Tomorrow, all carriers might start shipping phones with that feature disabled.
Thankfully, that has not happened for 99.99% of phones. But it might, because you know, as Android is open, people can modify it for both innovative improvements and new features and for locking it down.
Double edged sword :) It's not better and it's not worse, and its better and its worse. it depends on what you like/want. There is choice (and therefore competiton) between excellent mobile OSs, and that's great!

I think I know why OS X has had less great features then previous versions. Scott Forstall was a big designer for Leopard and helped create some of the major Lion features like Time Machine. After Leopard Forstall was moved to the IOS team. Perhaps Mac OS X needs Forstall back.
