I was in the Best Buy in West Los Angeles and they have the previous models Macbooks and Macbooks pros. I asked if they were sending them back to Apple and they said they were blowing out all the discontinued Macs at 5 am Black Friday. The manager there said I could buy the entry model Macbook for $899.99! Its the first generation with Intel core duo but so what. They also had the Macbook pros too. This is the info I got that day. He also said they had the most inventory and the other Bestbuys weren't as aggressive in pricing which I believe because I was at another store and they had none of the older macs.

I hate to add to this whole tiresome "debate" but it does amuse me how a video of an iPhone 4 losing signal is proof *positive* of a design flaw whereas a similar video of a different smartphone is no proof at all!
I have an iPhone 4, its the best phone I have ever had and by a mile! I'm happy with it and frankly I'm pretty much sick and tired of folks telling me I'm mad or stupid for saying so!

I will stand by my hypothesis that something that the TSA is doing is working to make hijackings less likely to happen in the USA.....
Just because hijackings are down doesn't mean that TSA is actually working. Since 9/11 we've had a guy who got c4 into his shoe, another who lit his underwear on fire, and countless TSA tests have shown guns and other weapons make it through without much trouble.
Our attempts at security are at best as good as Lisa's rock, and at worst much worse because they not only slow down travellers, curtail individual dignity, and cost billions, but also breed distrust and adversarial stances from the public that is supposed to be served.

I'm getting really tired of reading "iPhone on Verizon 4G after Christmas!" rumors on here. WHy is it that every time someone says "Oh, I've heard the iPhone's coming to Verizon in January," MacRumors puts it on the front page or Page 2? Are enough people so totally obsessed with the iPhone, they pee their pants if they don't hear a Verizon iPhone rumor every day/every other day?

He's not just saying F the police just because they're the police.
Also, you have to understand where some of these people are coming from. Maybe not Kanye personally, but I could understand why kids growing up in the American ghetto might feel a bit of animosity towards the police they way they are treated and all (not all police are crooked, of course.)

the two bad news i'm worried most from this.

It's not just the displays. The MacPro was still left a little short. Don't get me wrong, they are brilliant machines, my 2.8x8 is brilliant, but only 2GB RAM is a kick in the teeth for a Pro workstation.
Especially when this MacBookFart comes with 2GB as standard. Having said that Steve priority is purely creating products for the Disney store now.

Actually, you buy ram from OWC or Crucial and you are set. The price of MP is really good when compared to HP or Dell so I think the MP now is fantastic. It's impossible to enforce a gun ban when you just need to drive to the next town to buy them. If we were to implement restrictions it would have to be nation-wide, or else it would be too easily thwarted.
Uh huh- then what? Get our neighboring countries to do the same? We've all seen how well that works. All you'll do is create a huge black market if you attempt to ban guns. Then crime gets even worse. Not the way to go about the problem at all. Not to mention the fact that you would have a huge constitutional issue on your hands.

I would love to know what the worldwide figure is for Apple market percentage. I know it says here that its not in the top 5, hence no available data, but it would be interesting to see, particularly here in the UK, as the amount of people I know who have switched in the last year has been huge!!
Not just for interest though - if Apple do not take a firm presence in the rapidly developing (India, China) countries now, they may well face the same uphill battle against Windows they have been fighting for the past whatever years in the US.

Why would you run a promotion on something that sells out the moment they come into inventory? Sales are for Android products that can't be moved any other way.
Perhaps it is something like, "Purchase an Android device and we will let you buy an iPad."
I think you noted the situation. It doesn't play that a promotion is needed for the hottest selling product ever launched. Promotions are to get rid of stuff. so they don't have to give it back to the vendor at a loss.

I'm sorry, but with the release of the "true video" iPod "imminent" for months now, I'm just not going to pay any attention whatsoever until I have one in my hands.

I'm starting to doubt page 1 rumors just as much as I doubt Page 2 rumors. If you don't have direct sources, (as rumors on other websites would be,) it does not belong on page 1. By your own standards.

Have you heard anyone say that they are anxiously anticipating Vista? Microsoft will try to generate some synthetic excitement over Vista, but in reality, hardly anyone will really care.
I couldn't disagree with you more.
I've been a Apple-user since infancy, practically, (so don't take me to be a MS fanboy), but I also appreciate PCs. I have a iMac G4 for home and a PC laptop which I used on campus and have continued to use out of college. I recently downloaded and installed Vista RC1, and regardless of its still-beta form, it is surprizingly stable (for basic uses), plus has a gorgeous user-interface (nevermind it's an obvious aqua rip-off). In fact, I'm almost to the point where I want to set Vista as my default OS.
The point of saying all this is that Vista IS going to be a solid OS* and IS going to be a "threat" to OSX. If anything, I think that hardly anyone cares about OSX. To a lot of people, OSX is something they saw once that looked cool but didn't seem like a relevant option given how they used computers (of course they don't know that they're usually wrong). Now there will be a version of Windows that looks and feels like that other cool thing... which is exactly what they want. Average users aren't analytic about their computer purchases like we are. We know Macs are better because we've studied the options... but MS knows most people won't study. And to those people, Windows Vista is going to be a very alluring option... and will keep them from using those brain cells.
These people and everyone else who has made the decision to use a PC (myself included) are greatly anticipating Vista's release (or in my case, Vista SP1), and it will be a welcomed addition to the PC-user's home.

Fortunately for PC users, even the premium hardware demands will be met easily enough by today's CPUs. My laptop (2 years old) cannot run Aero Effects or any other special features of Vista, but still runs very smoothly with the features disabled. And, yes, I've had some blue-screens but that's because I was tampering with drivers and settings... something the average user won't be doing. And again, lastly, I repeat that I use a PC to suppliment my Desktop Mac. My PC Laptop was purchased at a time before Intel Macs were available... nor had any prospect of being able to dual-boot to Windows. It was a near-mandatory OS decision due to specific software needed for college classes... and, yes... LAN party gaming (which IS a college requirement, BTW).

Yes, Apple did "do" that design, and it was a thing of beauty. But my stupid idea would be a projector in the same form factor. Add in the latest and greatest I/O, Superdrive, and HiFi speakers tastefully added to either side (or maybe the bottom) and you have a truly portable, hi-def media sharing device.
After lugging around an older Hitachi projector and my PowerBook to share slideshows and the like, I'd use something like this!
